El Transcantabrico train, is a deluxe train that follows the old rail roads in Northern Spain, a seven-days journey where you will sleep in a suite, enjoy the best Northern Spain gastronomy and its restaurants, visit the main main museums, discover beautidful resort cities, visit the Picos de Europa, and its towns and beaches...
El Transcantabrico 2007
 The Journey
Get to know the North of Spain. We discover the cities and towns on the shores of the Bay of Biscay, between precipitous mountains and green meadows, next to beaches and cliffs. These places are full of charm, vitality and history, which have been transformed into works of art over the centuries: Santiago de Compostela, Ribadeo, Oviedo, Gijón, Santillana, Comillas, Santander, Bilbao, Balmaseda, San Sebastian… The train offers single or double compartments or suites, where you can enjoy the privacy you need on any pleasure trip.
 Accommodation
Travelers on the Transcantábrico enjoy a journey especially designed for rest and privacy, sleeping in comfort as the train stops at each station overnight. This means that your sleep is not disturbed by moving and jolting and gives those who enjoy nightlife an opportunity to go out and sample the atmosphere of each town. The train will be waiting for them at the station.
Each compartment is equipped with a travel set, consisting of a bathrobe, slippers, natural sponge, eau de cologne, hairbrush/comb, deodorant, detergent, makeup pads, etc.… The power rating is 220 volts.
In 2002, the trains were further renovated, converting all the compartments into suites.
Each suite compartment has a double bed, minibar, wardrobe, writing desk and telephone with an outside line. The floors are carpeted and the private bathroom has a hydro sauna, turbo massage, steam bath and hairdryer. Air-conditioning and heating are controlled individually.
All suites have large windows with curtains to contemplate the passing scenery. On the outside, the suite carriages have the same design as the rest of the train, to which they are connected internally, for the convenience of all clients.
 The Lounges
The Transcantabrico has four lounge carriages, absolute rail gems due to their external design and internal decoration and finish. These are the common areas of the train, where many a lasting friendship has begun throughout the train's seventeen years of history.
One of the lounge carriages has a bar and a dance floor. This is the ‘pub carriage’, decorated and lit like a small night-club, where lively entertainment is provided every night until the early hours of the morning.
Another lounge carriage has a second bar where you can sit back and relax. Waiters serve the tables in all lounges so that travelers can relax enjoying the scenery, chatting, reading or playing one of the many board games provided.
Travelers are offered daily press, magazines and books from the library (in Spanish, English, German or French) and there are a number of videos for added enjoyment.
 Gastronomy
As the Transcantábrico follows the Cantabrian coast and the lands of old Castilla and Leon, food will obviously play an important part on the itinerary. Many of the most demanding Gourmets and Chefs maintain that Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Castilla & León offer the best cuisine of all the Spanish regions.
The restaurants not only select the highest quality ingredients to be prepared by great professionals, but are also genuine gastronomic centres, offering an excellent combination of regional dishes and international cuisine.
 Other services
Laundry service: Consult the headwaiter.
Medical service: There is a first aid kit on board the train. FEVE's medical services are available to travelers should this be necessary. For added assurance, The Transcantabrico also maintains close contact with different medical centers in the towns visited en route.
Special menus: Travelers with special dietary needs may request same when making their reservation.
