 THE SEPHARDIC JEWS (Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Córdoba, Barcelona y Girona)
It is not known exactly when the first Jews arrived on the Iberian Peninsula, but possibly, it was before the imposition of the Roman Empire. But what is certain is that the Jewish culture found itself at home and with an important numerical presence. This is evident from the rich Jewish heritage that has been passed down from innumerable medieval villages and cities scattered about the peninsula and where it is still possible to visit ancient Jewish enclaves. For here, during centuries was written a story of tolerance that holds promise for mankind: the peaceful coexistence of Christians, Moors and Jews.
Suggested Itinerary:
Day 1. Madrid
Arrival in Madrid. Meet and greet at the airport with your private driver and transfer to hotel of choice. In the afternoon you will be met by our guide at the hotel for a private City Walk Old Town of Madrid. Overnight stay in Madrid.
Day 2. Madrid-Toledo-Madrid
Breakfast. Pick up at hotel for trip to Toledo by private car with English-speaking driver. Visits to the Sefardi Museum and Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue, and the Greco Museum. After lunch on your own you will return to Madrid. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in Madrid.
Day 3. Madrid-Segovia-Madrid
Breakfast. Pick up at hotel for trip to Segovia by private car with English-speaking driver.. Visit to the ancient Jewish Quarter and its synagogue, as well as the Alcazar (palace/fortress), and the Roman Aqueduct. After lunch on your own you will return to Madrid. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in Madrid.
Day 4. Madrid-Córdoba
Breakfast. On your own you will go to Atocha Train station to take the AVE (high velocity train) to Cordoba. Upon arrival , go on your own to your selected hotel. In the afternoon you will meet at the hotel with your English speaking local guide for a private visit to Cordoba focusing on the Jewish history of the city with visits to the Synagogue and Jewish Quarter. Overnight stay in Cordoba.
Day 5. Córdoba-Barcelona
Breakfast .Take the Talgo train to Barcelona. Upon arrival, go on your own to your selected hotel. Overnight stay in Barcelona.
Day 6. Barcelona-Girona-Barcelona
Breakfast. Pick up at hotel for trip to Girona by private car with English-speaking driver. Upon arrival, a walking tour of the Old City, including the Jewish Quarter before continuing on to the village of Besalú. Visit to the ancient Jewish baths and return after lunch on your own to Barcelona. Overnight stay in Barcelona.
Day 7. Barcelona
Breakfast. You will meet at your hotel with our English speaking guide for a private Gothic walking tour of Barcelona .Afternoon free. Overnight stay in Barcelona.
Day 8. Barcelona-Departure
Breakfast. You will be met by your private driver at the hotel for departure transfer to the Barcelona airport. End of Services.
